About Antigua 
Antigua is an independent nation and Head of State is Her Majesty the Queen of England who is represented on the island by the Governor General HE Dame Louise Lake-Tack.  The political system is a parliamentary democracy with election every five years.
 
The population including sister state Barbuda is approximately 85,000, the language spoken is English.  Antigua is located in the heart of the Caribbean Sea , at latitude 17 degrees 5’ North and longitude 61 degrees 45’ is the largest of the Leeward Islands and has a land mass of 108 sq miles. 
 
The coastline has numerous coves and bays with beautiful white and pink sandy beaches and turquoise waters..   365 beaches, one for each day of the year - is the island’s slogan.   Friendly people, spectacular beaches, dry climate, low humidity, warm all year round with soothing south easterly breezes, great restaurants, casinos and duty free shopping makes this an exceptional value.
 
 
 
 
 
Infrastructure
Antigua is a telecommunications hub and as such has a world class Telephone and Internet infrastructure in place.  Many internet companies are based in Antigua.
 
Antigua is also a financial powerhouse and is home to many offshore banks.

Currency
The Official Currency is Eastern Caribbean Dollar which is fixed to the USD at an exchange rate of US 1.00 equals 2,70 ECD.  US dollars are accepted everywhere, Canadian and Pound Sterling can be changed at the various banks around the island.  American Express, Diners Club, Master Card, Visa are widely accepted along with Travellers and Sterling Cheques.  Electronic funds can be easily transferred to and from any bank.  Most banks are open from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
 
Immigration
US, Canadian, UK, EU, most Commonwealth Countries, most Other European Country nationals require proof of citizenship such as a valid passport or birth certificate.  Nationals from other countries may require a visa.  No vaccinations are required unless the visitor is arriving from an endemic area.
 
Travel
The island has an International Airport and is served by the following airlines: American Airlines, Continental, Delta, US Airways Air Canada, British Airways, British Midlands, Virgin Atlantic, Condor,  XL Airlines, Caribbean Airways( formerly BWIA), LIAT and Carib Aviation.
